Cappanalea NCOET was established by Killorglin Community Council, Munster AFAS (Association for Adventure Sports) and Kerry Education and Training Board (ETB) which was formerly known as Kerry VEC, to work in the area of outdoor education or outdoor learning. Virtually all the work of the Centre is concentrated in the broadest spectrum of education. These educational areas include:-
Post Primary Schools;
3rd Level Colleges;
Further & Continuing Education
Community Education sector.
Cappanalea NCOET delivers educational components on the National Curriculum at primary and post primary levels is subject areas such as Physical Education; Primary School Science; Discover Science; Junior Science; Geography; Biology/Ecology and SPHE The Centre contributes to National education programmes which the Leaving Certificate; the Leaving Certificate Applied and is now working towards delivery of Short Courses for the new Junior Certificate Programme. Cappanalea is involved in National Educations Initiatives with courses focusing on Literacy and Numeracy and on elements of the JCSP. In the 3rd Level sector Cappanalea NCOET delivers on modules at Certificate; Diploma and Degree level in Wildlife Biology and Health and Leisure Studies. Cappanalea NCOET successfully works with the PLC sector in Sports and Recreation Programmes under its Further and Continuing Education work. The Centre contributes to VTOS programmes and with the Back To Education Initiative (BTEI). The Centre offers full time training at FETAC Level 5 for those seeking to commence a career in the outdoors. In our involvement with Community Education we work a complete range of community groups and individuals and courses vary to include the widest possible range of programmes and activities. With specific expertise with working with people with disabilities and we can offer a variety of choices to cater for particular client groups. The centre can tailor its courses to meet specific learning outcomes as requested by our clients, be they from the corporate sector; language schools; youth service or the health service.
