Well-Being through the Outdoors

The Well-being through the Outdoors programme is design around the solid PERMA model of well- being and adapted to the outdoor setting at Cappanalea NCOET. Those participating in the programme can opt to engage in one of the many outdoor activities offered during the programme. Nature Walk; Kayaking; Bushcraft; Orienteering; Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP); Hillwalking; Rock Climbing / Abseiling or Canoeing. There is an activity option to suit everyone, all levels of ability; land based or water based; physical or passive, challenging or sedate.

The format for the day consists of partaking in one of the outdoor activities in the beautiful landscape in the environs of Cappanalea NCOET. Groups of people can subdivide between a selection of activities or everyone can opt for the one activity depending on their preferences and logistics. Following the activity, the group convene in the log cabins in the wood and cook for themselves on an open fire and boil up a brew to share a hot drink and a chat while sitting on seasoned logs. This setting provides an opportunity to take valuable time out, to focus on all that is good in nature and to reflect on constituent elements of the PERMA model (Seligman 2011) which were addressed during the day. Participation in the day is acknowledged with the awarding a certificate prior to departure, to act as a reminder of a very special and positive outdoor experience.
