The Cappanalea Explore Course is one of our most popular courses where we work with a team of Transition year students. Over the initial three days we train them in the various skills necessary for a two day expedition over the lakes and hills of Kerry. On the fourth and fifth days the students take on this expedition under their own steam.
During the expedition the the students have to cope with the stresses of an arduous journey in a wilderness environment. They must confront the physical challenges or mountain climbing; abseiling; canoeing and camping. They must work as a group to reach collective decisions, they must share the skills and the chores of expeditioning and help out the weaker partners in order to succeed.
Parallels are draw from the experiences encountered on the expedition and with everyday life. The ability to contribute to and reach decisions; the need to work together; the value of training and learning in order to achieve higher goals; an individuals contribution to the overall target and respect for a unique environment.
